The Salt Path

last night I went to the cinema to watch The Salt Path with my friends and what a film it was. I already knew I was going to love this film, as someone who loves walking and is manifesting walking the Camino De Santiago.

The Salt Path is about a couple who loose everything then one of them is diagonised with a terminal illness so they decide to go on a year long trek around the Salt Path in the UK - which is a trek along the South West path of the English coast. It’s a true story, based on the book by Raynor Winn

A woman in bohemian earthy clothing, a long floaty dress and a brown bandeau with sterling silver handmade gemstone jewellery in the middle of the forest and woods surrounded by trees standing on a bridge and looking in the camera. Very earthy tones, natural make-up and embracing her inner beauty and connecting to mother earth

the film had some beautiful messages in but one that stood out to me the most was seeing the good things in all the bad. The couple in the movie are going through so much hardships in their life, they are struggling in their home, in their heath and they just decide to just walk. The walk wouldn’t be the most comfortable, it would include uncomfortable and cold nights, long walks sometimes without water, it would be a mental struggle and push them to their limits when they’re already going through a lot. But one thing that I noticed, when things were “bad” there would be these little sparks of joy, where it was just them and nature, they would observe a bird, observe the beautiful scene around them, laugh like they were young again and carefree, swim in the sea. At these moments they would be completely in the now and just present. Nothing else mattered, just them and the elements.

Appreciating the little things

sometimes when we are in “dark times” of our lives we can find it difficult to see any kind of good. We are so consumed by our pain and our hurt that we just block out the beauty that is all around us and that is OK! It is sooo difficult to see positive things when everything around you feels like it’s crumbling…

but there is always a bit of light. Sometimes you have to just open your eyes to everything around you to see and feel it.

Ways you can appreciate the little things in your life:

  • everyday start your day by listing 5 things you’re grateful for in your life. do not start your day until you have named at least 5.
  • get outside in nature and watch nature. listen to the birds chirp, watch the breeze blow the trees, feel the warmth on your skin. Mother Earth blesses us with so much natural beauty that sometimes we take for granted, so get out there and breathe in that fresh air, feel those trees and experience the sunsets.
  • tune into the present moment - The Power of Now is a beautiful book about being in this moment. sometimes a lot of our problems, our issues, our heartaches can be from our mindset focusing on the past or the future. when really all we have is NOW. this moment right here, so try and calm your mind (meditation and mindfulness is a good way!) and be here now.
  • trust in the hidden roots - sometimes we can only focus on the bad because thats what is shown to us, but sometimes the bad is setting us up for something beautiful. It is teaching us lessons, it is giving us ways to be stronger and more resilient. so trust that everything is happening for a higher purpose.
  • re-frame the narrative. stop labelling things are “bad” see it as part of your story and ask yourself “how may this become a turning point?”
  • find beauty in simplicity. in The Salt Path, they are given no choice but just to loose all their stuff. Their home, their clothes etc. they have to pack their whole lives for the next year into a small backpack. when we are faced with this sometimes it teaches us that we don’t need all this “stuff” to make us happy, we can find happiness in connection, in each other in ourselves. try to simplify your life, with your possessions, with your to do list, with your headspace. there is beauty in the mundane.
  • shift the question… instead of asking “why is this happening to me” instead ask “what is this here to teach me”
A beautiful woman in the woods surrounded by nature and trees looking at the trees. She’s dressed in boho clothing, a long floaty white skirt and an earthy brown bandeau top. She is wearing handmade sterling silver gemstone chunky rings that are inspired by Mother Earth. She is stood on a bridge. Looking out. She had a sun and a moon tattoo. She is a very earthy and boho soul who loves connecting to nature and herself.

When starting this brand and when i first started making hand-made jewellery there are so many things that went wrong. I destroyed rings I had spent hours hand-making (and sterling silver is very expensive!!!) i broke gemstones, I had put out collections and didn’t even sell ONE piece - there were so many things that went wrong and there was way more “dark” than good - I felt lost and so disconnected in who I was in this brand, what I wanted this brand to be. I could feel myself going into a deep dark hole of failure and sadness. But I suddenly started changing my mindset and seeing the good. When creating pieces and if they were ruined, I would see the positive and see it as a learning curve. I believe that I didn’t sell anything in my first collection because I wasn’t aligned in what my truth was so I saw it as a positive and a lesson and it helped me re-brand and find make the pieces that I wanted. I would always see the positives and see the light and it allowed me to stay motivated, to stay connected with myself and stay grounded so I was able to create the beautiful brand I have created now and I couldn’t be more happy!

Everyday I am hand making pieces of jewellery that are unique, that are high quality and are finding their forever home in beautiful souls that are deeply connected to the jewellery. Now these pieces are made with positivity and intention so I can pass the good vibrations on to each and every piece and their beautiful owner.

I hope if you are struggling you can find the beauty in the little things and find the calm in nature.

all my love always,

Tilly xxxx
